Ambien is a drug that belongs to the class of drugs miscellaneous anxiolytics, hypnotics as well as sedatives. This is used for the treatment of insomnia. On the other hand, Adderall is a stimulant which gives a temporary release to the central nervous system and is used to treat narcolepsy as well as ADHD.
Drugs as such should never be mixed unless the medication is prescribed by a medical practitioner who knows your case thoroughly. Especially, when the medication is so strong and can have nasty effects and also could lead to potential abuse or addiction. The reason is that when drugs are mixed, there are chances of them reacting together. They could cause either the effect of the drugs to cancel out each other or may cause the effect of one of the drugs to be heightened or even sometimes the effect of the drug as a result of the combination could be completely different than what the effect should be.
Ambien and Adderall
The doctors who know the case of the patient, their history as well as their constitution are the only people who can prescribe these drugs – either as standalone drugs or as a combination. Since the effects of these drugs are diametrically opposite to each other, one needs to be extra careful when consuming them. Ambien is to put a person to sleep while Adderall is to keep the person from falling asleep.
Both of these drugs act on the chemicals of the brain and so if these are abused or taken when not necessary or even taken when prescribed, they still have effects on the brain, it’s functioning and on the heart as well.
When Adderall is prescribed in the morning and Ambien is prescribed to be taken at night, then there is no issue especially if the patient is in need of the drug and it is given for a short period of time. However, if there are large doses of Adderall that is consumed by one then the chances of not being able to sleep immediately upon taking Ambien is increased. It is a known fact that Adderall does cause insomnia at times, especially if it is taken later in the day, one will not be able to sleep at night.
For some people who are not prescribed one of these drugs and still they consume it, or if they consume the drug for a longer period than they should or even in larger doses than is prescribed, then the chances that before they are able to fall asleep they may suffer from hallucinations especially when they are in front of bright lights or even computer monitors. Some as a result may even feel queasy and sick. They could also suffer from rapid or irregular heartbeats. In severe cases, it can cause people to make irrational decisions and they can even lose their mental faculties and understand ability of thought or it could lead to a degeneration of cognitive abilities.
Therefore, these drugs need to be consumed with caution.
