A new study reveals that taking sleeping pills that induce a person to sleep improves the ability of brain to consolidate memories or even move information from a short time to longer duration. Ambien increases the spindle activity while Xyrem decreases the same. Researchers constantly monitored the sleep cycle of these individuals alongside measuring their sleepiness and mood. They also gave these patients a number of memory tests in order to assess their ability in remembering things or events.
The study observed that there were improved sleep spindles associated with the use of Ambien. The study also stated that when patients took Ambien, they scored better on verbal memory tests. These in turn lead researchers to discover that Ambien also improved memory in individuals.
